![]() In this talk, we will focus on a particular subclass of PSSs, called positive k-spanning sets. In particular, it does not reflect the spanning capabilities of a given subset of the PSS vectors. A good cosine measure implies that the directions in the PSS can be useful for optimization purposes, however this metric does not fully account for the structure of the PSS. Derivative-free optimization methods based on PSSs typically favor those with the best cosine measure. Gabriel Jarry-Bolduc: A derivative-free trust region algorithm using calculus rules to build the model function ↓Ī positive spanning set (PSS) is a set of vectors that spans the whole space using non-negative linear combinations. Different strategies are tested on a some analytical test problems, and on a real hydroelectric dam optimization problem. We introduce a trend matrix and a trend direction to guide the Mesh Adaptive Direct Search (Mads) algorithm when optimizing a monotonic grey box optimization problem. With this goal in mind, we have built a theoretical foundation through a thorough study of monotonicity on cones of multivariate functions. Our objective is to develop an algorithmic mechanism that exploits this monotonic information to find a feasible solution as quickly as possible. We refer to this type of problems as ``monotonic grey box'' optimization problems. That is, when increasing a variable, the user is able to predict if a function increases or decreases, but is unable to quantify the amount by which it varies. The MATLAB Standalone version can only be installed on 1 computer per license.Įligibility: To check if you are eligible to download MATLAB on your personal device, follow the instructions here. This version only requires an internet connection to initiate the license at the time of installation. Personally-Owned Devicesįor Students, Faculty, and Staff who require MATLAB for the purpose of teaching, instruction, or non-commercial research, the Standalone version is available for your personal device at home. Installation: To install the network or standalone version on your UBC-owned device, contact your local IT support team or submit a request to Okanagan campus Faculty and Research Staff should contact the UBC Okanagan IT Services Help Desk. An internet connection is not when the program is run otherwise, and is only recommended if a campus network connection is not possible on the device. The MATLAB Standalone Version requires an internet connection when initiating for the first time, and when the license is renewed annually. This license should be used for computers that are on the UBC campus. The MATLAB Network Version (recommended) requires a campus network connection (on campus connection or via VPN) at all times, and is updated automatically. See the Installation section below for details on which license is right for you. The license agreement allows for MATLAB to be installed on both UBC-Owned and Personally-Owned devices. UBC IT has a license agreement with MathWorks that covers all active UBC Students, Faculty, and Staff. Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox.
